Vicky's Ordination
THE Reverend Vicky Balabanski's Uniting Church ordination has been praised by the Anglican Church as a step towards closing divisions. Dr Balabanski was ordained yesterday by visiting Church of South India Bishop V Devasahayam, whose position is acknowledged by both the Uniting and Anglican churches. >>> MORE

Grant Hay's Visit On April 10th, Grant Hay visited our parish again to talk to us about his ministry in prisons and at Point Pearce. After the service we had an informal lunch which enabled many parishioners to have a chat with Grant and learn more about his work. He is pictured here is preaching at Bridgewater. Papunya Progress Dear friends, Between last Friday and Tuesday, I was in Papunya again with Peter, Katrina, Alex and Elle as they met Tobias and Shekayla and their families and made their final decision about whether they could host them in the coming years. There were other major questions of guardianship, and financing the children's supervised travel back and forth between Adelaide and Papunya for school holidays that we needed to address as well. These have all been resolved now. In short,
We have made an application to the Centrecorp Foundation in Alice Springs to cover funding beyond travel and school fees--a little over $50,000. We and the Papunya Community have agreed on Bridgewater Primary School as the children's first school in this area. The question last night remained about funding an additional room on Peter and Katrina's home for the girls to share. That has just been resolved by an astoundingly generous offer by a parishioner of a gift of $30,000 to fund the extension. What else can we do but praise our wonderful God! boy in a white top, and Shekayla came for dinner. The smiles say what
the relationship is like. At the beginning of October, six of our parishioners visited the Point Pearce Community for one of Grant Hay's outreach programs. The bikers were terrific - The Long Riders and The Easy Riders are both Christian groups, and the other group was BUACA: Bikers United against Child Abuse. They provided us with a band to provide the music for service. Kym had 30-40 children dancing energetically during their segment, and Grant spoke with great passion and commitment. A delicious and nutritious barbecue lunch, with plenty of salad and fruit (and no lollies) followed the service, and then the bikers gave joy rides to anyone who wanted them - they were very popular! We all got to have interesting conversations with a range of people who lived in or were connected with the Point Pearce community, and we had to drag ourselves away when it was time to head home. Last May in our church hall at Crafers, Alison Anderson, an indigenous member of the NT legislative assembly invited the people of this parish to start visiting the remote aboriginal community of Papunya; her home community. In early October Peter, Vicky and Keith Smith visited Papunya to begin exploring possibilities for a partnership between the people of this parish and the people of Papunya. Fullarton on 12/6/2010 Welcome Chester!
Chester Balabanski has settled in well. About 3 years old, he's a Spaniel x Poodle whom we found advertised on a supermarket notice board. He is officially named 'Winchester', but answers to Chester. Loves his food, and ours. His progress with catechism is patchy so far, and he's too friendly to be let loose in services. He worries about people praying and tries to nose us awake. Anyway, you'll know who he is when you meet now. Visit of Alison Anderson & Nicolas Rothwell to the Parish of Stirling Celebrated author, Nicolas Rothwell and Independent Member of the NT Legislative Assembly, Alison Anderson were our guests during May 2010. If you did not get a chance to hear them, or if you would like to hear them again, here are the audio files of their talks:

Grant Hay's Aboriginal Ministry in Prisons and at Point Pearce. Since Grant visited this parish on 11th April, members have responded very remarkably, especially after the yellow flyer. 3 large trailer loads and their vehicles have gone, fully laden to the aboriginal settlement at Point Pearce taking furniture, clothes, kitchen ware etc. They are SO grateful and have so little. Denis Noble and I took a load and were very impressed by this settlement and they have great respect for their Pastor Grant. Please keep your goods coming, we have a long way to go. It is such a pleasure to share with our brothers and sisters. Contact Betty Argent, Aid Co-ordinator for this mission on 8339 3603 CLICK HERE to visit Grant's website.
