Stirling Anglican Parish Drawing Group - Denis Noble
This is a group that began a couple of years ago
when I made an open offer to anyone in the Parish, to pass on whatever
drawing skills I’d learned over forty-plus years of holiday
sketching. To my surprise, the offer was taken up by almost twenty
people. We ran some “how-to-do-it” sessions at our house
and surprising things happened. A few lucky ones whose drawing had
been limited to doodling in the corner of the message pad, suddenly
found that they draw!
We collected a bunch of drawing addicts and began
regular Saturday afternoon drawing sessions at various locations.
We’ve drawn old buildings at the Aldgate Railway Station and
at the Church of The Epiphany, derelict boats at Port Adelaide and
trees of all shapes and sizes at places around the hills.
The usual format is that we meet at a pre-determined
location on a Saturday afternoon, I might give a brief demonstration
showing how I’d tackle the subject, and then everybody sits
down for around two hours of making pencil lines on paper.
The participants who can, usually make a donation
of Ten Dollars for the session, and this money goes into the Parish’s
general revenue.
We’re not always limited to drawing, although
my firm belief is that the ability to draw is almost essential as
a foundation for painting. And we’re not all parishioners.
Why should the church-goers have all the fun?
Contact me for the autumn 2010 timetable. We’ll
probably take a break during winter, and resume again in spring.
